Energized

I always loved running... it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power. You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs. -Jesse Owens Today, I more than survived the 18-mile Friendship Run, and strangely enough, I feel more energized than tired (or sore) right now. I think I'm very happy about today's run. I woke up at 5:00 a.m. and did all my morning stuff, then left home at 5:55. We all waited for the bus until 6:50-ish, several minutes after D and I went to Jack in the Box (better known to her as "Jack in the Crap") to use the facilities. Hansen Dam is actually surprisingly and disgustingly close to here... So we actually arrived by 7:30. The race began at exactly 8:00 (no surprise there), and S and I ran for three miles, then intermittently ran/ walked for the rest of the fifteen. The dam was not that bad

UCLA and Epiphanies

First of all, I will admit that I should be working on the biology notebook right now, seeing as how I probably will not have much time to do anything academic this weekend. But I simply did not and do not feel like doing so, so I decided to blog. Second of all... Well, here begins my story of today! I went on a field trip to UCLA for art class. Quite frankly, it was really dumb that we had to go from LA to Chatsworth, back to LA, again to Chatsworth, and finally back home to LA. Otherwise, it was fun. The Fowler museum houses so many exotic exhibits, and the Nick Cave one was just astoundingly different from any other artwork I have seen. You should go check it out sometime! Before my group had that tour, though, we went to a studio room, where we did arts and crafts modeled after Nick Cave's works. It had been so long since I had done arts and crafts, and after I figured out what I wanted to do, I just did not want to stop! Unfortunately, after about twenty-five minutes, we had t

Chinese New Valentine

Yep, today was both Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day. Clearly, for Chinese people, the former outshines the latter. In fact, the latter was pretty much forgotten, I think. During lunch today, we were talking about J, who joined the army. I told my mother that his mother had told us that he had sent a postcard saying, "I'm tired. Don't mail back." It was hilarious, but both mothers (mine and his) suspect that the vaguely brief message suggests that it isn't easy over there. Then my mother began to talking about how hard work will result in a good future, the concept of which, in my mind, I began to question. If you work hard now, you will have a good future, my mother preached. But when can you stop working hard to ensure that your future will be in good enough standing? Today, tomorrow, next year, next decade? It occurred to me then that you don't know, and you never will. Even if you unfathomably did, it probably only means that you'll work hard e

Tired Eyes

I really want to take off my contact lenses now. But then I wouldn't be able to see because my eyeglasses aren't here. I don't particularly wish for many things, but right now, I wish that we can just settle at one place and one place only, because quite frankly, I do not have time for this kind of ridiculousness. On top of that, my patience for it is...not very much. Not very much at all... Well, at least I have good news. Decathlon is over, and we did very well: placed 15th out of 64 schools district-wide, third in our conference (following El Camino Real and Granada Hills), as well as Most Improved in our conference. Ms. R had wanted the latter for such a long time, and we finally achieved it! So that was exciting. Marshall High completely, utterly dominated, and I was happy for them because they had dominated El Camino, as well. Haha. Today, I found out that A was right. I didn't have to worry about my grade point average. I am in fine and dandy standing right now,

Frankie J

Yesterday on the way to the Clippers game, I found a Frankie J song I don't believe I had ever before heard. Needless to say, I was stunned. Therefore, I am currently listening to "Crush". I feel so liberated. The first semester of senior year is officially over, and no longer do I have to worry about grades, because it's all been said and done, and little can be done about even the grades I may not be satisfied with. Deca competition was yesterday, so unless we're going to state, I no longer have to cram French Revolution information into my fragile head. Speaking of which, I woke up with a terrible headache, one that I had never experienced, but thankfully, it's gone now. I believe this is my first February post. Oh, wow, it has been exactly one week since the beginning of February. No school tomorrow, yay! Anyway, I shall... inform you all of yesterday. I woke up around 6:30 a.m. and arrived at Roybal an hour later. We sat there and reviewed and whatnot, th
